What happens anyway?

Well so much has happened. My dear friend of a thousand years came and shocked San Francisco. There was so much discussed and imbibed in short order.

And we had another show. A personal C+ but an overall solid B for the group. Shit is hard. Happily several people showed up and the other bands were terrific. All in all, a great time out...

Last night Michael and I went to see "Riding Giants" which was not as interesting as I thought it would be. I really thought it would relieve my Olympics need by overwhelming me with athletic feats of fantasy. There is no affiliate here in San Francisco so I have seen no Olympics. And dammit, I've liked the Olympics since I was a little kidder. Riding Giants is interesting. Imagining surfing a 20-30 foot wave is beyond my scope. I could have done without the wacky soundtrack (a mish mash of stuff from Alice in Chains to Eric Satie) and the history of surfing bit. The best parts were the old home movies of the early California surfers -- a real counterculture. Though I knew the movie would be like this from the start: the old 50's surfers would be idealized and thought of too sentimentally and the footage, music and personalities of the surfers would just get more aggressive as the movie (and the timeline) went on. And I was right. Another thing, what about sharks? No shark on surfer footage at all.

Where's the blood?
